Lee woke with a cry, eyes wide and bloodshot, sweat plastering his hair to his face as he slammed back against the walls. His eyes shot to his front, zeroing in on two trembling legs - he had legs. He looked down - his hands were tensed like claws against the dirty, rust-colored floor, but he had hands. Uncaring of the filth, he ran his fingers over his forehead, nose, and cheeks - no blood, no muscle, just skin, just skin. He was fine.
He was fine.
His breaths were loud and harsh in his ears.
That was... that was one of the most terrible dreams I've ever had...He inhaled deeply, willing himself to calm down. He was a shinobi, and a shinobi did not let himself get carried away by nightmares. As his heart slowed its frantic beating, he took in his surroundings.
He was in a dimly lit, padded cell. The walls were grotesque and misshapen, and every inch was covered in black, disturbing stains. The ceiling seemed to be caving in, threatening to swallow him whole. The entire space was suffused with menace.
He couldn't stay here. Lee scrambled to his feet - and brushed against something that clinked. He peered down - a small pack. Come to think of it...
Lee patted his chuunin vest. Turned around and looked for the bag he always kept behind him. The vest was empty, and his bag was gone. He had nothing whatsoever. Frowning with suspicion, Lee crouched down, back to the door, ready to spring out at any moment, and drew the pack open as if it was going to attack him.
He found ration bars, water, one kunai, about half a dozen shuriken, and...
...
.....a laptop.
Without pausing to wonder about the items he'd been given (oh yes, someone had given him these supplies- probably the same someone who'd trapped him here), Lee stuffed everything back into the bag, strode over to the blackened door, and peered out.
The hall stretched endlessly to either side of him, dark and cold and ominous.
With one last look at the shadowed chamber behind him, Lee slipped silently out into the corridor.
He tried not to think about how strongly the place resembled his dream.
